Telehealth, or TeleMental Health as it is also known, means “the delivery of healthcare services through the use of interactive audio and video technology, permitting real-time communication between the patient at the originating site and the provider, for the purpose of diagnosis, consultation, or treatment” in the state of Washington.

As we all work to practice physical distancing, as well as expanding our search for available resources, we are looking for new ways to stay connected and feel supported. As such, I am offering therapy sessions using a secure video conferencing platform to facilitate individual counseling sessions from the comfort of your own home!

I will continue to offer this service after we return to face-to-face session as an alternative when meeting in person might be limited by factors such as inclement weather, if you have a sick kid at home, if you are stuck at work, or if you are out of town (within the state of Washington) for example.

How do I prepare for my Telehealth session?

Because we are not able to complete our session from the safety of my office, it is important that we work together to maintain a safe space for your session. Here are a couple of things for you to consider in preparation for our session:

  • Create a confidential space

    • Try to find a quiet space where you will not likely be disturbed, and will be comfortable speaking openly and honestly.

  • Look behind you

    • Is there anything that you would not want me to see? Also, try not to sit in front of a mirror or a television screen.

  • Think about the device you will be using

    • Try to ensure the device (computer versus mobile device/tablet) is securely placed in front of you and that camera is approximately eye level. Do not try to hold the device for the duration of the 50 minute session.
